It seems that Agony Booth whipping boy Thomas Haden Church has been earning kudos and piling on the awards for his role in the film "Sideways" (as have his co-stars Paul Giammati and Virgina Madsen). Has anyone seen this film? Is it really that good? What does Albert think about this?

If Thomas Hayden Church wins an Oscar, the Academy will owe Jim Carrey a public apology.

Speaking of Jim Carrey, I must be the only one who thought THE MAJESTIC was good. My favorite bit had to be Bruce Campbell's cameo as the hero in the movie Carrey's character wrote.

Back to topic, Lowell getting an Oscar nod? I think everyone in Hell better start getting their earmuffs and mittens out...

Rome: Would somebody *please* shoot this guy?
Morgan: What does it look like we're doin'?
Rome: Missing!

THC's film roles have always been kind of spotty, imo, but his chicken is first rate!
(Word on the street is that he's Woody Harrelson, Snoop Dogg and Tommy Chong's favorite actor for some reason. At least, that's what Ziggy Marley told me.)

I kinda like the guy. Albert gave him flack for being the villian in Mr. Murder after playing Lowell on wings. Not sure if that's tongue in cheek or honest pidgeon-holing. While Mr. Murder was a mediocre movie overall, I found him to be an adequately greasy and mean spirited bad guy. I remeber first seeing him on the short lived sitcom Ned and Stacy where he played an excellent bitter bastard.

The guy's got some talent and a unique prescence, I think he just can't tell a good script from a pile of used diapers.

He knows the score, he get's the women and he KILLS the bad guys!.

THC was great on wings, and the show went south for me after he left. he was very funny.

I like the guy too it's just that he's really better suited to comedy than he is to playing villainous government types and U.S. Marshals.

Don't write Thomas Hayden Church off just yet. Everyone said Tom Hanks couldn't play a serious part too and he did well enough. Granted THC isn't as good an actor as Hanks, but I think he can do it.

Hey, I just thought of something. Thomas Hayden Church's initials are THC. THC is the stuff in marijuana that makes you high...or gets you addicted or something like that.

Coincidence? Probably. Interesting? No. Just thought I'd point that out!

Yeah, I know. That's the horror of the quick reply feature. It's easy to say something without taking the time to decide whether what you said was actually worth the two seconds it took to type.
I blame society.

Why is there even a quick reply feature? I mean, is it really that much more work to click the "Reply to Topic" button?

"Quick reply" was added during the board's revamp awhile back. Sometimes it's handy. Sometimes, not so much.

Well, he wouldn't be the first person featured on this site to win an Oscar. (Jon Voight, Akiva Goldsman and Ben Affleck are the obvious examples.)

Personally, I'm all for filmmakers/actors coming back from crap to do something worthwhile. I may have hated Batman & Robin, but I can still (somewhat) enjoy Joel Schumacher's Falling Down, for instance. If Thomas Haden Church turns out to be one of the most acclaimed actors of our time, then more power to him.

The only reason I mocked his appearance in Mr. Murder is because it's hard to accept someone who played the comic relief on a sitcom as the menacing bad guy. (And the script sure didn't help matters.) It would be like watching a movie in which Jm J Bullock played a mafia hitman.

The Agony Booth Forums will be upgraded on Friday, May 16.

Every actor has more than a few coffee rings on their resume, so to speak, so I'm glad this guy's working his way out of the proverbial hole. But if Jennifer Lopez ever gets an Oscar, then I will officially take back the above statements and move to Libya.

And I'll stock up on ice skates for Satan, CB I liked THC on Wings, but since, I have to agree, his resume has more misses than Sarah Lawrence. Although his four or so line performance in Tombstone wasn't bad....
