It was confirmed on Friday that at the upcoming Academy Awards, Blake Edwards will receive an Honorary Oscar.
Edwards has an impressive resume as a writer, producer, and director with many well-remembered films - although things fizzled out in the mid-1980s - and it's hard to argue that he doesn't deserve some recognition.
Of course, he is already recognized here at the Agony Booth for the ill-conceived "Trail of the Pink Panther". So he now joins the ranks of those artists honored by Oscar and dishonored by the Agony Booth.
Blake Edwards certainly isn't alone in having both an Oscar and an appearance in the booth. The question is which "honor" will gain him more recognition.
I think his best movie was A Shot in the Dark. I love the "I suspect everyone, and I suspect no one" line. I notice a lot of later movies that weren't very good had "Blake Edward's" before the title proper. That reminds of all the "Wes Craven's ..." movies that came out. But he usually had very little to do with those.

Ahhhh, you know the media's biased towards the Oscars. Not particularly fair, but that's how it goes. ;o)
So you noticed the possessive use of the director's name before the titles of the later films too, huh? Edwards did often also produce and write his films as well as direct them, so I suppose he felt entitled to it. With Wes Craven, usually his contribution to the films that bear possessive use was a lot smaller, and it's obviously strictly for marketing purposes.
