Well, no rule is ironclad, but I still sort of standby the premise that in general,if you give a good heavy metal song a real respectable listen and you don't feel it, stuff isn't going to change much. I think this applies to metal subgenres as well- If you listen to say, "Inno A Satana" or "Beyond the North Waves" and can't get into either, then its probably safe to say you won't like black metal.

I just assumed that Dragonforce was a satirical metal band, like Spinal Tap and Dethklok. Those guys are serious? When people who don't like metal explain why they don't like metal, Dragonforce is exhibit A.

Just remember, neither Spinal Tap or Dethklok are actual bands- both are satires that turned (to a lesser or greater degree) into "real" bands.

With very few exceptions (Strapping Young Lad comes to mind), nothing about heavy metal is satirical. One of the reasons metal is sort of a "love it or hate it" genre is because you have to actually be able to get pumped up about things most people find silly.

Doesn't matter, Dethklok will still rock your face off.

It's commonly thought that Brendon Small only started the show so he could front a metal band. Also, Wikipedia says they have the highest charting death metal album ever...pretty impressive. In any case, as I said before, they're much better than Dragonforce.

Don't get me wrong...I fucking love Dethklok, though the fact their album sold so well is definitely due to their being on an extremely popular cartoon, not because they're the best death metal band ever.
